Phillips 66 has started up its two new natural gas liquid (NGL) fractionators at its Sweeny Hub in Old Ocean, Texas, which quadrupled the site’s processing capacity to 400,000 bpd.
The two fractionators follow the startup of Sweeny’s first 100,000 bpd fractionator in late 2015.
Previously, in the summer, the two 150,000 bpd fractionators reached mechanical completion and were coming online in September-October. The process was on schedule despite the challenges from the storms and coronavirus pandemic.
The two fractionators are part of the Sweeny Hub Phase 2 expansion and it was completed under budget. The new fractionators spur the integration between Phillips 66 and joint ventures DCP Midstream LLC and Chevron Phillips Chemical Co. LLC (CPChem).
