PipeChina will suspend operations at Beihai LNG terminal in the Guangxi province for at least a month after a fire occurred at the facility on November 2 and killed six and injured three people. The state-owned company will also halt construction work at the terminal’s second phase expansion. Beihai LNG terminal has a nominal capacity of 2.9 million tons/year and a storage capacity of 480,000 cubic metres. Market participants expect the shutdown to have a limited impact given underutilized terminals in southern China. Some LNG carriers scheduled to arrive at the Beihai terminal have been diverted to other destinations.
