PTTDLM, a partnership between PTTGC America and Daelim Chemical USA stated that it remained committed to a world-scale petrochemical complex in Belmont County, Ohio despite the coronavirus health crisis. The project spokesman Dan Williamson admitted that the pandemic had caused some delays, but he ensured that the developers would move forward as quickly as they could.
Previously, we reported that the partnership expected the pandemic to cause a delay on the final investment decision (FID) for the project construction. However, it aimed to begin the construction soon after reaching the FID.
The project also faces opposition from some residents and environmental groups who worry about the potential air and water pollution from the ethane cracker. However, PTTDLM said it had outlined programs to improve the air and water quality of the area. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources and Ohio Environmental Protection Agency have granted all necessary permits to the project.
The project will have a 1.5 million tons/year ethane cracker and 1.6 million tons/year of downstream capacity, including high-density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low-density PE (LLDPE) and metallocene linear low-density PE (mLLDPE). However, the exact capacity of each downstream product remains unspecified.
