  • Russia has thus become the second largest crude oil supplier to India in September, with Iraq in the top position

According to TASS, Russia's state-owned news agency article published on October 28, 2022, the Russian share of India’s oil imports surged from 19% in August to a record-high 23% in September 2022, The Economic Times newspaper said.

Purchases of Russian oil by India rose 4.6% in September to about 896,000 barrels a day. At the same time, India's oil imports from the Middle East dropped by 16% month-on-month to 2.2 mln barrels a day in September. This volume of Middle Eastern oil purchases was the lowest in the last nineteen months, the newspaper said.

Russia has thus become the second largest crude oil supplier to India in September, with Iraq in the top position.

India covers 85% of its energy needs through imports. In 2021, Iraq and Saudi Arabia were the main suppliers of this feedstock to the country and Russia ranked ninth in terms of supplied volumes.
