AlwaysFree: Russia's Gazprom Maintains Gas Exports To China Despite Amur Plant Fire

Author: SSESSMENTS

Russian gas company Gazprom on Friday stated that it maintained gas exports to China despite an operation suspension due to a fire at the Amur gas processing plant in Russia’s Far East. Gazprom noted that it continued delivering gas through the Power of Siberia pipeline to China in line with daily nominations. A spokesman with the Amur plant said the fire affected only one of its processing lines and was put out at 1.05 PM (0405 GMT) on Friday.

Local authorities said the blaze occurred after the decompression of plant equipment and injured no personnel. They said that an investigation had been initiated to determine the cause of the incident. Analysts said the fire might have a limited impact on Russia’s gas exports to China. Gazprom is expected to export more gas to China than its guidance of 8.5 Bcm this year.

The Amur gas processing plant (GPP) has a nameplate processing capacity of 42 Bcm/year. The plant is also designed to produce up to 60 Mcm/year of helium, 2.5 million tons/year of ethane, 1 million tons/year of propane, and about 500,000 tons/year of butane. It was launched in June 2021 and is expected to reach full capacity by 2025.
