From 52 percent in 2017, Russia's share of Turkey's natural gas imports decreased to 33 percent in 2019, statistics compiled from the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority show.
With LNG taking a 19.5 percent share, 55.25 billion cubic meters of natural gas imported by Turkey in 2017 while 45.21 billion cubic meters of natural gas imported in 2019, with LNG marking a 29 percent share. Russia’ natural gas of 28.69 billion cubic meters sold to Turkey in 2017.
Marking a 47 percent share of Ankara's total gas imports, Russia in 2018 exported 23.64 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Turkey. This share last year decreased to 33 percent.
Data from the Association of Gas Storage Europe (GSE) showed gas storage capacities as of June 2 in Europe were 73.34 percent full compared to 60 percent a year ago.
To purchase 1.2 million tonnes of LNG from France’s Total, a deal signed by Turkey’s Botas. Running for 3 years, this deal will start in late 2020. When global LNG prices reduced, Botas increased spot LNG purchases. Turkey's spot LNG imports amounted to 3.8 million tonnes in Q1 2020 compared to 2.3 million tonnes for Q1 2019.
