AlwaysFree: Sasol Observes Boegoebaai’s Potential for Global Green Hydrogen Hub

Author: SSESSMENTS

South African Sasol Ltd. is observing the possibility for Boegoebaai to be a global green hydrogen and ammonia hub.

Boegoebaai is located in the Namakwa Special Economic Zone (SEZ) and it has been designated a Strategic Integrated Project (SIP) in the South African National Development Plan. Sasol has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Northern Cape Development Agency (NCEDA) to lead the feasibility study.

The Boegoebaai project is one of several green hydrogens, ammonia, and power-to-X (P2X) opportunities, which Sasol is assessing as part of the new strategy.

Sasol will leverage Special Economic Zones (SEZs) that have been prepared to unlock South Africa’s green hydrogen market potential for domestic use. The company has signed an MOA with the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG) for that purpose.

The company has partnered with the Industrial Development Corp. (IDC) who will provide joint funding for the feasibility study.

Sasol’s strategy is in line with South Africa’s ambitions to establish the country as significant green hydrogen production and global export hub.
