A joint development agreement stated by Shell and Dow to accelerate technology to electrify ethylene steam crackers, which used by supply chemicals to make daily products.
Dow-Shell collaboration is already underway. The two companies bring together their common commitment and complementary expertise in a low-carbon future. Designing and scaling ‘e-cracker’ technologies are the innovation project teams focus.
The teams, in Texas (USA) and Amsterdam and Terneuzen (the Netherlands), will work to first prove out process technology innovations in laboratory and pilot operations and to scale to commercial crackers in the coming years.
To reduce industry’s energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, significant technological breakthroughs are needed, Keith Cleason, Vice President Dow Olefins, Aromatics and Alternatives business, said. To achieve bold and ambitious new goals, Cleason said companies will be required to work together and step out of their comfort zones.
