Royal Dutch Shell and PetroChina have signed a five-year contract for carbon-neutral LNG supply. Shell said that PetroChina had received its first carbon-neutral LNG cargo at Dalian port. For each cargo under this deal, the two firms would cooperate in offsetting life-cycle carbon dioxide equivalent emitted across the LNG value chain. The carbon offset came from nature-based projects such as reforestation, natural habitat protection, and land restoration, which add oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide emissions. Nature-based projects are used by companies to offset carbon emissions they are unable to cut in their operations.
