According to the company’s LinkedIn post on March 8, 2023, the core facility of SIBUR’s Tobolsk-based ZapSibNeftekhim – its central gas fractionation unit – processed its 130 millionth tonne of hydrocarbons in February 2023. The unit, which separates NGLs into their component hydrocarbons, was brought online in December 1984 and became the cornerstone of the future industrial enterprise.
NGLs are extracted from associated petroleum gas (a mixture of propane, butane and heavier hydrocarbons) supplied to ZapSibNeftekhim from northern fields. NGLs are a feedstock of choice in the production of polymers, which are used to make a wide range of products.
