According to the company’s LinkedIn post on February 10, 2023, the climate project run at ZapSibNeftekhim, a SIBUR enterprise, has successfully passed an international verification audit.
In a first for Russia, the project uses the previously flared hydrocarbon feedstocks that cannot be put back into the main production process as the main fuel for ZapSibNeftekhim’s combined heat and power boilers. This slashes greenhouse gas emissions.
The project was audited by verico SCE, a leading European validation and verification centre, which issued ZapSibNeftekhim a certificate of conformity to ISO 14064-2:2019 and its quantification, monitoring and reporting requirements.
As a consequence, SIBUR was granted certified emission reductions for about 3 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions avoided between 2017 and 2022. Some of them have already been booked by a buyer.
