AlwaysFree: Six Norwegian Oil, Gas Fields Shut Amid Escalating Workers Strike

Author: SSESSMENTS

Six oil and gas fields in Norwegia shut production on Monday as an ongoing strike involved more workers. The Norwegian Oil and Gas Association (NOG) said the strike cut about 330,000 boepd or 8% of the country’s total oil and gas output capacities. Equinor said production was halted at its Kvitebjorn, Gudrun, Gina Krog, and Valemon fields. Neptune and Wintershall DEA also said they shut the Gjoea and Vega fields, respectively.

Data from the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate (NPD) showed the six fields produced 79,000 bpd of crude oil, 194,000 boepd of natural gas, and 62,000 bpd of NGLs. According to a separate survey, nearly 60% of the cut production is of natural gas, with crude oil and NGLs making up the rest. Analysts said the supply reduction could amount to 600,000 barrels if the strike lasted around three weeks, but they doubt the strike would last that long.

The strike was initiated by 43 workers represented by the Lederne trade union. On Monday, another 126 union members joined the strike demanding better financial terms, including an offshore wage agreement that covers onshore remote control workers. Some producers are considering controlling offshore platforms remotely to cut costs.
