AlwaysFree: Suez Canal Northbound Traffic Restarts After Ship Briefly Stranded

Author: SSESSMENTS

The bulk carrier Coral Crystal was briefly stranded in the southern part of the Suez Canal at 11:14 AM on Thursday after experiencing engine trouble. The Suez Canal Authority stated that the Panama-flagged was refloated at 12:35 AM local time without creating any delays for convoys. Coral Crystal has resumed its voyage through the waterway to the Port of Sudan, ship-tracking data showed. Shipping industry sources said both northbound and southbound traffic in Suez are now proceeding as normal.

Earlier this year, a giant container vessel, Ever Given, was stranded in the canal, creating a logjam of nearly 400 ships. Deliveries of crude oil, gas, refined products, and other commodities were affected. The Suez Canal is one of the world’s most crucial commodity chokepoints. According to the US Energy Information Administration, the Suez Canal handles roughly 10% and 8% of the world’s seaborne oil and gas trade, respectively.
