The US Gulf of Mexico is being threatened by a tropical storm system that is estimated to arrive in the region by midweek and would likely grow to hurricane force as it drives toward the US coast.
According to the National Hurricane Center, on Sunday evening, the system was located south of Jamaica with a maximum wind of 35 mph.
On its current track, even when it is hard to determine at the current stage, the system may enter the central Gulf of Mexico early on the morning of October 7 as a Category 2 hurricane. It would be named Delta.
The system may bring a storm surge and high winds to the US coast from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle.
