Toufik Hakkar, the CEO of Algeria’s state-owned Sonatrach Hydrocarbons, said that Turkey attaches great importance to the polypropylene (PP) project being developed in Ceyhan, Adana. Ceyhan Polypropylene Production Inc. is a joint venture of Sonatrach and Turkey’s Rönesans Holding. It will have a total production capacity of 450,000 tons/year and is expected to be operational in 2025. UOP Honeywell and LyondellBasell have been awarded contracts to provide their process technology licenses for the plant. Spanish constructor Técnicas Reunidas has started the construction of the plant. Hakkar said the project’s total investment is estimated at about $1.7billion. International banks are expected to fund 70% of the cost, while Sonatrach and its Turkish partners will provide the rest.
