The US Coast Guard on Saturday said that the lower Mississippi River and New Orleans ports had reopened to cargo operations and ship traffic. This allowed shipments of grain, metal, and energy to resume. On the other hand, the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP) was still assessing and repairing damages. LOOP is the only deepwater oil port in the US capable of receiving over 1 million bpd of crude. Most ports in Louisiana had reopened by Thursday, including the Ports of New Orleans and Fourchon. However, Port Fourchon sustained extensive damages which restricted operations for daylight hours only, affecting deliveries to offshore oil and gas platforms.
