The US Energy Information Administration (EIA), in its Weekly Petroleum Status Report, said petroleum product demand in the US averaged 14.1 million bpd during the week ending April 17, inching up from a week earlier when demand averaged 13.8 million bpd, the lowest consumption since EIA introduced weekly data series in the early 1990s.
The average motor gasoline product was 8.9 million bpd this year through March 13, before the stay at home orders took place. Since then, supplied motor gasoline had declined by 40% to 5.3 million bpd last week. US demand for jet fuel dropped 62% to just 612,000 bpd on April 17, compared to 1.6 million bpd before the shutdowns.
Distillate product supplied was 3.9 million bpd on average this year through March 13, before the shutdowns. Last week, it decreased by 20% to 3.1 million bpd. Distillate fuel oil includes diesel fuel used by the trucking, locomotive, and agricultural sectors.
