Viva Energy, the operator of the Geelong refinery in Victoria, has signed an MoU with Woodside Petroleum on a potential LNG supply for Viva’s proposed regasification terminal at Geelong. The new reception terminal will serve Australia’s east coast domestic market. Viva’s CEO Scott Wyatt said the new terminal would have lower environmental impacts than building a new pipeline to transport gas to Victoria from other parts of the country. Viva also announced that it had agreed to charter a floating storage and regasification unit for the proposed terminal from Höegh LNG Ltd. Viva is eyeing to make a final investment decision (FID) for the project by the third quarter of 2022.
