AlwaysFree: Zeon Corporation: Zeon Chemicals Singapore (ZCS) Entered Into A Memorandum Of Understanding With Shell To Agree On A Supply Of Sustainable Butadiene For S-SBR Production

Author: SSESSMENTS

According to the company’s website press release on October 25, 2022, Zeon Corporation (head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Kimiaki Tanaka) is pleased to announce that its subsidiary Zeon Chemicals Singapore (Pte) Ltd. (ZCS, head office: Singapore) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on October 2, 2022 with Shell Eastern Petroleum (Pte) Ltd. (registered in Singapore) to agree on a supply of biomass-derived butadiene (sustainable butadiene) for use in ZCS’s production of solution-polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber (S-SBR) in the future.

Zeon is working to realize carbon neutrality and a circular economy by transforming its “MONOZUKURI” as a strategy under its Medium-Term Business Plan launched in FY2021 and has been actively shifting to sustainable raw materials as a key element of its strategy.

The main use of S-SBR is as a material for fuel-efficient tires; through this latest initiative, Zeon will contribute to environmental sustainability along with safe and comfortable living by reducing CO2 emissions from driving vehicles as well as adopting the use of sustainable materials.

Zeon is currently in the process of obtaining international certification for biomass-derived raw materials, and it considers sales of S-SBR made from sustainable butadiene as a certified product
