China’s Zhejiang Satellite Petrochemical Co. Ltd. has commissioned a new pressure swing adsorption (PSA) unit which will provide high-purity hydrogen to its integrated refining and petrochemicals complex in Pinghu City, Zhejiang Province.
Honeywell UOP provides licensing of its Polybed PSA technology for the unit. The technology allows the production of hydrogen with 99.9% purity by using UOP adsorbents to remove the impurities at high pressure. The hydrogen that will be purified is produced by a propane dehydrogenation (PDH) unit in the complex which uses Honeywell UOP’s C3 Oleflex technology.
Besides the license, Honeywell also provides services as well as supplies equipment, catalysts, and adsorbents for the new PSA unit.
The complex is currently able to produce 450,000 tons/year of polymer-grade propylene. Phase 1 of the PDH plant began processing propane to produce 450,000 tons of propylene annually in late 2014. Zhejiang Satellite recently commissioned a second PDH unit as part of the second phase at the complex.
