A controversial ethanol project in Zimbabwe is expanding despite the critics on its impact on the nearby communities.
The project is run by Green Fuel (Pvt) Ltd. and is steadily expanding its output.
The critics said that the facility did not properly compensate the nearby farmers for their land now used to grow sugar cane for the plant. According to a 2015 parliamentary committee report, the facility has spewed toxic waste, and that also increased truck traffic, leading to more fatal traffic collisions.
The company claims to have been helping Zimbabwe slashing the need for imports and is providing jobs.
Green Fuel, which has denied polluting waterways, did not respond to questions regarding the criticisms and allegations.
