Royal Dutch Shell Plc. spokesman Curtis Smith said that the company’s joint-venture (JV) refinery Deer Park in Texas is planning to idle one of the six sulfur recovery unit (SRU) in 2021.
The decision followed the operations’ assessments at the refinery aiming to remain competitive in the tightening market.
According to sources familiar with plant operations, at the moment, the refinery is operating at roughly 75% of its 318,000 bpd nameplate capacity due to the slumping demand on the back of the coronavirus pandemic.
