- A converter based in Indonesia informed SSESSMENTS.COM on receiving offers for local HDPE Film cargoes via a trader at IDR11,500,000/ton ($739/ton) on cash, FD Indonesia basis and excluding 10% VAT, which is quite attractive and captured as the lowest level available in the local market at the moment. However, the converter has yet to decide procurements as their buy idea for local HDPE Film is at IDR11,000,000/ton ($707/ton) on the same payment and delivery terms. Additionally, market activities will remain quiet onwards as the Jakarta government decided to extend large-scale social restrictions in the city. The restriction was initially set to end on April 23 but extended by another 28 days to May 22. The converter added that the government will only allow distributions for essential products, such as food and medical-related products during the period.
- In the import market, a global trading house revealed to SSESSMENTS.COM that the company decided not to give official offers for import Thai PE cargoes to the Vietnam market this week, considering the bearish sentiment following the crash in US crude oil prices at the beginning of the week. However, the trader asked customers to place bids for the cargoes, yet no bids received so far. Likewise, the trader has yet to receive May shipment offers from a Saudi producer this week. Further added, the trader’s customers are significantly affected by Coronavirus lockdown across the globe as most of them are targeting the export market. The trader heard that some customers have slashed the operating rate by 30-50% from normal capacity.
