Author: SSESSMENTS

On Thursday, Texas Eastern pipeline in Kentucky exploded and killed one person. Canadian Enbridge Inc said the pipeline will remain shut through at least August 12. To investigate the incident, Enbridge is working with federal and state officials. It cannot estimate when the pipe will return to service.

Following an explosion in Ohio in January that injured at least two people, the blast in Kentucky was the second so far this year on the Texas Eastern system. Following an explosion in British Columbia on its Westcoast system in October, it was also the third big blast for Enbridge in less than a year.

In the Appalachia region, only a temporary impact on production caused by the blast. The production has since gone back to record levels.

About 1.7 billion cubic feet of gas (bcfd) at the time of the blast were flowing south through the damaged section of pipe toward the Gulf Coast. From a record high of 32.6 bcfd earlier in the week, output briefly reduced to 31.8 bcfd by producers in Appalachia after the blast on Thursday.
