Taiwanese petrochemical maker Formosa is planning to restart its No.2 ethylene cracker in Mailiao after a shutdown earlier this week, market sources told SSESSMENTS.COM. The 720,000 tons/year unit was taken offline on June 1 due to mechanical issues and is expected to resume production on June 6-7. The unplanned shutdown did not appear to affect Formosa’s downstream plants in Mailiao.
Formosa also maintains full production at its No.1 and No.3 crackers on the same site. The three crackers in Mailiao have a collective capacity of 3 million tons/year. Market sources also informed SSESSMENTS.COM that the producer planned to shut its 1.2 million tons/year No.3 cracker in mid-August for a 40-day turnaround.
