A local trader reported on finding difficulties to source HDPE Film and HDPE Blow Moulding grades following an unplanned shutdown at the leading Indonesian polyolefins producer’s plant. The leading Indonesian polyolefin producer has a problem with their HDPE plant with a production capacity of 200,000 tons/year, which was having unplanned shutdown since a week ago due to a technical issue. SSESSMENTS.COM is notified that the plant is expected to remain shut until April 24. Cargoes delivery from the producer was delayed for HDPE Blow Moulding until an unspecified time. However, the trader voiced out that the shutdown would only impact supply for HDPE Blow Moulding and HDPE Film since this plant is utilized to produce these two grades. Supply from the producer for HDPE Blow Moulding and HDPE Film is reduced drastically, and as a result, the distributor is having a hard time to source these materials.
In term of offers, the trader revealed to SSESSMENTS.COM that local PE prices from their end were adjusted down for both HDPE Film and LLDPE Film C4. Compared to last week, HDPE Film plunged by IDR1,100,000/ton ($71/ton) while LLDPE Film C4 offers dropped by IDR700,000/ton ($45/ton). For PP, the trader’s offers for local PP Homo Injection and PP Homo Film cargoes are considered stable from last week.
Speaking of supply, this week’s offers for PP High MI from the leading polyolefins producer seem to be absent due to strong demand from the converters. High MI PP is used for making the surgical masks, which is currently striking amid the Coronavirus outbreak. Further added by the trader to SSESSMENTS.COM, the leading Indonesian polyolefins producer applied a huge reduction on this week’s price list in an attempt to eliminate PE and PP cargoes to enter the Indonesia market.
