Pengerang Refining Co. Sdn. Bhd.’s (PRefChem Refining), a subsidiary of Malaysia’s Pengerang Refining and Petrochemical (PRefChem), has completed the construction of its steam cracker complex, market sources informed SSESSMENTS.COM.
Toyo Engineering Corp, which won the engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning (EPCC) services contract for the 1.291 million-tons/year ethylene plant, said that it had completed the services in December 2019.
The complex is part of PRefChem’s 300,000-b/d refinery and petrochemical integrated development (RAPID) project at the Saudi Aramco-Petronas jointly held Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) in Johor, Malaysia. The complex will have a capacity to produce 630,000 tons/year of propylene, 185,000 tons/year of butadiene, 660,000 tons/year of pygas, 175,000 tons/year of benzene, and 550,000 tons/year of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE).
As SSESSMENTS.COM noted, PRefChem has not announced the current operating status of the RAPID project, although it was scheduled to start up by the end of 2019. In its latest earnings report in September 2019, Petronas said that PIC was 99.8% completed.
