A source of General Chemical & Resins (GenChem) informed SSESSMENTS.COM that the company might extend the shutdown at its PVC plant. Initially, the producer will only shut their plant until April 14 following the lockdown imposed by the Philippines government since March 17. However, rumour has it that the government plans to extend the lockdown period by another two weeks. As such, the producer’s 20,000 tons/year PVC plant will likely remain off-line longer than expected to comply with the government’s decision regarding the lockdown.
Owing to the lockdown, the country’s domestic market has crippled. Most producers and manufacturers were forced to halt productions. At the moment, delivery is impossible as logistics lines are not operating. Furthermore, to prevent people from wandering outside, the government has deployed many checkpoints across the city to monitor the situation. In short, SSESSMENTS.COM was told that the country’s priority now is to abolish the Coronavirus outbreak.
