“This week, we managed to secure some volume of HDPE Film cargoes of Middle East origin at $20/ton lower than the initial offer level, at $730/ton on LC at sight, CIF Thailand Main Port basis,” a Thailand-based trader reported to SSESSMENTS.COM.
An Indonesian converter informed, “We received offers for Middle Eastern HDPE Film cargoes at $800/ton on LC at sight, CIF Indonesia Main Port basis. However, we decided not to take the cargoes as we think the acceptable price for the cargoes should be around $700/ton-level. Besides, our supply for HDPE Film is quite ample at the moment.”
“Our offers for HDPE Film to the Southeast Asia market lowered by $40-50/ton compared to last week’s level. To date, we hardly managed to conclude deals with Indonesian and Malaysian buyers. In general, the market condition in both Malaysia and Indonesia is slow as affected by the Coronavirus outbreak. As such, most buyers are not keen on making procurement. There are not many inquiries submitted this week, for some buyers who plan to buy mostly asked for lower prices, that is not acceptable for now,” a marketing arm of a Middle Eastern producer told SSESSMENTS.COM on March 31.
“This week, we received offers for HDPE Film from a Saudi producer at $100/ton lower than last week’s level. We successfully concluded deals with the producer at $710/ton, or $20/ton lower than the initial offer level. At the moment, the cargoes are already available in Malaysia and Singapore ports. At such a level, we only purchase a small volume. If there are other Middle Eastern suppliers willing to sell at $650/ton, we are willing to purchase in bulk. All offers were on LC at sight, CIF Vietnam Main Port basis” a converter based in Vietnam commented.
“From our end, the latest offers for HDPE Film to Indonesia market slipped between $30-40/ton as compared to last week’s level. Despite the reduction, the offers still deemed unattractive due to Rupiah depreciation. At the moment, buy idea from Indonesian buyers for HDPE Film is at $740-750/ton-level. However, some traders have placed bids at $600/ton-level,” a Thai PE producer informed SSESSMENTS.COM.
“This week, the offers for US HDPE Film are available at $730/ton on LC at sight, CIF Vietnam Main Port basis or $50/ton lower than last week’s level. While from the Middle East, the offers are available between $730-750/ton on the same payment and delivery term, yet most buyers are not interested in taking the cargoes,” a Vietnamese trader commented.
A Middle Eastern producer contacted by SSESSMENTS.COM stated, “We revised down our offers for HDPE Film by $30/ton compared to the offers available early last week. The reduction was made as the previous offers were deemed unworkable. Even so, most customers are still purchasing on an as-needed basis.”
“For April shipment, we are currently offering Saudi PE cargoes at $80/ton lower than last month’s level. Particularly for HDPE Film, the offers are available at $780/ton on LC at sight, CIF Vietnam Main Port basis. Despite the notable reduction, we received bids from buyers at $80/ton lower than the initial offer levels,” a global trading house revealed.
