Comments by market players on HDPE Film market as follows:
A Malaysian trader contacted by SSESSMENTS.COM revealed, “One of the local polyolefins producers in the country has announced the offers for June delivery. Compared to the offers for May delivery, offers for HDPE Film increased between MYR180-200/ton ($41-46/ton). Despite the increment, demand for HDPE Film is very strong. Our allocation is already fully booked for this month. Most of the customers are securing some allocations since the producer has reduced the allocation stemming from the upcoming maintenance shutdown at the producer’s PE plant. As of 29 May, we do not have any allocation left for HDPE Film.”
A trader in Thailand commented, “A polyolefins producer in the country has increased the offers for HDPE Film by THB500/ton ($16/ton) as compared to last week’s level. The producer claimed that the short supply on the producer’s end has supported HDPE Film prices. However, buyers will surely show a stiff resistance towards the high-end price. In the open market, even though the offers stand at THB29,500/ton ($925/ton), the deals for HDPE Film could be concluded between THB27,000-27,500/ton ($847-863/ton) on cash, FD Thailand basis and excluding 7% VAT. Besides, supply for HDPE Film in the market is still sufficient. Converters’ buy idea is still at the low level since demand for the end products remains dull due to the Coronavirus outbreak.”
“We only have a small allocation of import HDPE Film from Thailand. It is only 4-5 containers. We are offering Thai HDPE Film cargoes at $860/ton on LC at sight, CIF Vietnam main port basis. This level is higher by $30/ton as compared to last week’s offers. However, the deals were concluded at $20/ton lower than the initial offer level, at $840/ton with the same payment and delivery term,” a global trading house informed SSESSMENTS.COM.
A marketing arm of a Middle Eastern PE producer stated, “We are adjusting up the offers for HDPE Film to Indonesia and Malaysia. On a weekly comparison, offers for HDPE Film were hiked by $10/ton on the high-end of the price range and $30/ton on the low end of the price range. At the moment, offers for HDPE Film stand at $780/ton on LC at sight, CIF Indonesia and Malaysia main port basis. Some buyers in Malaysia submitted bids at $760/ton with the same payment and delivery terms. However, we rejected the bids considering the tight supply for HDPE Film in the country, stemming from the upcoming maintenance shutdown at one of the local polyolefins producers’ PE plant. Overall, demand for HDPE Film is quite good at the moment.”
A Vietnamese trader informed SSESSMENTS.COM regarding the significant upward price adjustment from the leading Saudi polyolefins producer. “Compared to last week’s level, offers for HDPE Film hiked by $70/ton. At the moment, HDPE Film price stands between $840-860/ton on LC at sight, CIF Vietnam main port basis. The producer said that we have to confirm the orders immediately; otherwise, the producer will shift the allocation to the other customers.”
Another Vietnamese trader talked about demand for HDPE Film resins. “From our end, buying sentiment has shown some improvements. We managed to sell our allocation by two to three times as compared to the weeks during social restrictions. However, in July and August, demand for PE resins would be in a downtrend due to traditional patterns. During this time, demand for the end products is usually subdued.”
