Market sources in China revealed to SSESSMENTS.COM that an Iranian vessel carrying PE materials (1282) has been allowed to berth at the port of Nanshan, China. However, sources mentioned that it is uncertain whether remaining vessels will also be allowed to dock at China ports.
SSESSMENTS.COM was informed that US government officials had imposed a new batch of sanctions against Iran in December last year, targeting Iran’s shipping network following accusations of supporting the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The sanctions came into effect after a 180-day “wind-down” period ending in early June 2020. The US authorities had previously warned government all over the world to investigate all activity in their ports associated with the two Iranian shipping companies, Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and its Shanghai-based subsidiary, E-Sail Shipping Company Ltd. As new sanctions took hold, shipment for import PE cargoes from Chinese key PE supplier, Iran, has been delayed with no further notice. A total of 6 Iranian vessels including 1284, 1285, 1286, 1287, 1288, and 1289 were still stranded near Shanghai and Qingdao ports, but none of these vessels allowed to enter the ports.
