Germany-based Thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions AG has won a contract to build a new polyethylene terephthalate (PET) production plant for Turkish packaging producer KÖKSAN. As SSESSMENTS.COM noted, the new plant will be built in Gaziantep, Turkey, next to KÖKSAN’s existing PET plant and will double the company’s PET production capacity to 432,000 tons/year. KÖKSAN expects to commission the new unit in 2022. Thyssenkrupp also built KÖKSAN’s existing PET unit in 2013.
Thyssenkrupp will provide the Melt-To-Resin (MTR) PET process technology for the second plant. The technology was proprietary to Thyssenkrupp subsidiary Uhde Inventa Fischer and incorporates a continuous polycondensation process to produce various grades of PET resin. Thyssenkrupp claims the technology requires lower energy, investments, and operating costs.
