Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd’s subsidiary focusing on marketing, Petronas Chemicals Marketing (Labuan) Ltd (PCML) agreed to market methanol produced by Sarawak Petchem Sdn Bhd for 20 years, with an option for further extension.
Sarawak Petchem’s Bintulu methanol plant is expected to come online in 2022, with an annual capacity of 1.7 mtpa. Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) will supply 140 million standard cubic feet/day (MMSCFD) of natural gas.
The new facility is expected to increase supply to Southeast Asia, East Asia, and India.
