Market sources informed SSESSMENTS.COM that Braskem America Inc. had completed construction and started a commissioning process of its new Delta polypropylene production unit in late June 2020. The new unit is located within Braskem’s existing manufacturing site in La Porte, Texas. The new unit can produce up to 450,000 tons/year of PP, including homopolymer, impact copolymer, and random copolymers. The Delta PP unit is expected to begin commercial production in the third-quarter 2020. Braskem operates five existing PP units in the US: three in Texas, one in Pennsylvania, and one in West Virginia.
The new unit utilizes W.R. Grace & Co.’s proprietary Unipol PP process technology. The project’s engineering, procurement, and construction services are performed by Linde AG. The service provider said it managed to finish the project’s mechanical delivery within the planned first-half 2020 target despite obstacles stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.
