Market sources in China informed SSESSMENTS.COM that Ningxia Baofeng Energy Group had successfully started up the world’s largest methanol plant. The new unit can produce up to 6,600 tons/day of methanol and is part of Ningxia Baofeng’s 600,000-tons/year coal-to-olefins (CTO) facility near Yinchuan in the Chinese province of Ningxia. The plant utilizes Johnson Matthey’s catalyst and process technology. Ningxia Baofeng also operates an existing methanol plant with JM’s technology commissioned in 2014.
