PlantsSSESSMENTS: ZPC Reaches New Milestone In Phase 2 Of Zhousan Integrated Complex

Author: SSESSMENTS

Market sources informed SSESSMENTS.COM that Zhejiang Petrochemical Co. Ltd. (ZPC) on June 10, completed the installation of the world’s first and largest slurry-bed hydrogenation reactor at its 800,000-bpd Zhoushan integrated refining and petrochemical complex in Zhejiang, China, marking a significant milestone at the phase 2 development of the complex.

The design and installation of the unit were carried by Sinopec Engineering Group Co. Ltd. The 72-meter high unit weighs 3,025 tons and has an outside diameter of 6.156 meters and a wall of 320-mm thick. It will be the core of the complex’s phase 2 operations. Sinopec is currently preparing to install a second hydrogenation reactor at the site.

As SSESSMENTS.COM noted, ZPC commissioned phase 1 of Zhoushan complex with a capacity of 400,000 bpd in late 2018. Phase 2 will nearly double the complex’s processing and production capacity and is scheduled for commissioning in the first quarter of 2021. Earlier in 2020, ZPC started up a 1.4 million-tons/year ethylene plant at the complex. It also awarded a licensing contract to Honeywell UOP LLC in March for the complex’s hydrogen purification and recovery unit.
