On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump said the approval of year-round access to E15 fuel will curb US dependence on imported oil by as much as 250 million barrels/year.
The Environmental Protection Agency in late May lifted the summertime ban on E15, or gasoline blended with 15 percent ethanol, fulfilling a promise Trump made in October.
Allowing summer sales of E15 will expand the market for biofuels although before adding pumps and storage tanks, fuel stations have been waiting for final approval. It is estimated that year-round E15 will increase ethanol demand by 1.3 billion gallons, or about 2 percent annually, within five years.
E15 is to expand in three phases, starting from more sales at stations which already sell E15. Then new stations adding tanks and pumps and eventually new markets in states that currently do not allow E15.
