AlwaysFree: ACC: US Chemical Production Down in April

Author: SSESSMENTS

The American Chemistry Council (ACC) said that in April, US chemical production was down in all regions due to disruptions in supply chain and lockdown in most US states.

Last month, US chemical production edged lower by 5.3% year-on-year with US Chemical Production Regional Index (CPRI) slipped by 3.1%, down by 1.0% slid down in March and 0.4% fall in February.

The Gulf Coast region posted the steepest decline month-on-month. The yearly production fall was noted as the largest in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and West Coast regions.

All chemical segments showed drops in production. However, within some major segments, there were increases in several chemical materials production such as supply chains tied to personal protective equipment (PPE) and disinfection products.

Due to the activity restrictions, the manufacturing activity which is signaling chemical demand was battered as factories were shut down. On a three-month moving average (3MMA) basis, overall manufacturing activity slumped by 6.3%.
