Alpla, along with Romania's Ecohelp and Switzerland's United Polymer Trading (UPT), is establishing a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycling plant in Targu Mures, Romania via a joint venture called PET Recycling Team Targu Mures.
The three companies will invest a total of EUR7.5 million (USD8.8 million) for the facility, which will produce 15,000 tpa of food-grade post-consumer recycled PET (rPET).
Alpla will act as a recycling specialist and a preform and bottle manufacturer, Ecohelp will supply the base material in the form of PET flakes, while UPT co-owns the rPET Upcycling facility Cumapol Emmen in The Netherlands and specializes in trading plastics and recycled material.
