AlwaysFree: Austria, Germany’s Bavaria Interested To Receive Gas From Croatia’s Krk LNG Terminal

Author: SSESSMENTS

  • Austria and the German state of Bavaria have shown interest to receive natural gas supplies in the future from Croatia’s FSRU-based Krk LNG terminal on the northern Adriatic island of Krk.

According to LNG Primes article published on November 24, 2022, this was revealed on Thursday after a visit to the 140,000-cbm FSRU LNG Croatia by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, and Bavarian Premier Markus Soeder, according to the Croatian government.

Europe has significantly increased LNG imports this year as European countries look to boost energy security and ditch Russian gas pipeline supplies.

Due to high demand, Croatia also decided to further increase the capacity of its FSRU-based LNG import terminal.

The capacity of the terminal will rise to 6.1 bcm and the expansion project will cost about 180 million euros ($187 million).

The bigger part of the project includes the construction of a new pipeline from Zlobin to Bosiljevo while the FSRU should get a new regasification module in 2024.

In order to send natural gas to Austria and Bavaria, Croatia also needs to build a new connection pipeline to its neighbor Slovenia.

The partners will now work on the details of the project to deliver regasified LNG from the Krk FSRU to Austria and Bavaria.
