BP Plc has confirmed the plan to begin shipping Azerbaijan’s natural gas to Europe by the end of 2020.
The confirmation came amid the military conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
The transfer of Azeri gas to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), part of the Southern Gas Corridor project, which will carry energy from Azerbaijan’s offshore Shah Deniz field to Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria in Europe.
The commissioning of TAP and the interconnecting pipeline was expected to be ready in November.
The USD40 billion Southern Corridor is backed by the European Commission as it takes measures to cut Europe’s dependence on Russian energy.
