According to Interfax article published on March 10, 2023, Canada has decided to ban import of aluminum and steel products from Russia, the Canadian Department of Finance said in a statement on Friday.
"Today, Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, announced that Canada is banning the import of Russian aluminum and steel products," the statement said.
That way Ottawa would limit Russia's profits against the backdrop of the situation in Ukraine, the ministry said.
The ban applies to all Russian aluminum products, including unprocessed and aluminum sheet metals, and finished products such as kitchenware and other household goods, the Department said. Imports of iron, non-alloy steel, semi-finished and finished goods including pipes, are now also banned.
In 2021, Canada's imports of Russian aluminum and steel products stood at $45 million and $213 million, respectively, the Department said.
