AlwaysFree: Car Factories Restart Production In Europe

Author: SSESSMENTS

Even though the coronavirus pandemic has hammered demand and pushed up inventory levels, Germany’s Volkswagen on Monday resumed production at its biggest factory. Volkswagen group is resuming production this week at its plant in Wolfsburg (Germany) as well as at factories in the Czech Republic, South Africa, Portugal, Spain, and Russia.

To begin with, production capacity will be just 10 percent-15 percent at Wolfsburg. After about a week, the production capacity will reach around 40 percent of pre-crisis levels. Volkswagen’s plans mirror moves by rivals Peugeot, Renault, and Fiat Chrysler.

Italian van production has been restarted by Fiat Chrysler at its plant in Atessa. In addition to preparatory works for upcoming electric and hybrid vehicles at Mirafiori and Melfi plants, some other operations also resumed in the country.

Swedish truck maker AB Volvo is also looking to restart output. Last week, the company said its net orders had turned negative since the end of March.
