Chemetery Corp. and Braskem will establish a demonstration plant for ethylene dichloride in Brazil.
The plant will use Chemetry’s eShuttle technology to produce high purity EDC, a commodity chemical used primarily for PVC production, without the generation of chlorine gas. The process effectively decreases electrical power consumption and production costs compared to the latest generation of chlor-alkali processes.
The initial focus of this agreement will be the construction of a demonstration unit to be installed at Braskem’s Chlor-alkali Maceió site, Alagoas State, Brazil. The project will also be supported by Braskem’s Global Process Technology team.
Dr. Ryan Gilliam, Chemetry CEO, elaborated that the eShuttle platform is able to provide a safer and more environmentally friendly approach to the production of commodity chemicals while at the same time improving margins.
