AlwaysFree: Chevron Potentially Lift Israel’s Gas Field to Global Market

Author: SSESSMENTS

Delek Drilling, Chevron’s new Israelian partner, said that the energy giant’s entry to Israel’s Leviathan natural gas field has the potential to lift the status of the field in the global market.

Previously in July, Chevron bought US Noble Energy which possessed shares in offshore gas fields in Israel in the biggest energy deal since the start of the coronavirus-related crisis and brought it to be the first global energy major to the country’s gas sector.

Leviathan is Israel’s biggest field which started production late in 2019 and exports to Jordan and Egypt aside from the global market. Chevron’s presence brings a significant LNG capability into the project as the field’s majority partner with Delek.

Delek, along with past partner Noble, was planning to tap into the LNG market at a second stage but the country has no infrastructure for it. Now, Chevron and Delek could move a step forward to either connect the project with LNG terminals in Egypt or build a floating LNG terminal (FLNG).

Delek Drilling CEO Yossi Abu commented, “Chevron could assist from a commercial perspective and marketing perspective, but for sure from a technical perspective to evaluate with us the capability to develop the FLNG project.”
