Fuel stations in many parts of China are rationing diesel amid rising costs and tight supply, BBC reported. Some truck drivers are waiting an entire day to refill their tanks. In Shijiazhuang city in Hebei province, truckers are restricted to fill up 100 litres each, around 10% of their capacity. In Fuyang city, drivers are charged surcharges of up to CNY300 yuan ($47) in some refill stations. In other parts of the country, rations are even tighter, with drivers only allowed to purchase up to 25 litres of diesel.
The diesel shortage came as China battled against its worst power crunch in decades, which forced factories to close and left home without power. Analysts said the latest issue would deteriorate the ongoing global supply chain crisis as it affected long-distance transportation of goods. Chinese citizens also lamented in social media posts that some items had become more expensive, and the express delivery service was now slower than usual.
