Specialty chemical maker Clariant announced that it had joined the EU Circular Plastics Alliance as part of the company’s support of the transition towards a more circular plastics economy. The EU Circular Plastics Alliance aims at enhancing plastics recycling in line with the targets of the EU Green Deal program and Circular Economy Action Plan.
The company has committed to the Alliance’s goal to expand the recycled plastic market in Europe to 10 million tons by 2025. Clariant is looking forward to collaborating with other key players to advance plastics circularity, said Bernd Hoegemann, the company’s chief transformation officer. Richard Haldimann, Clariant’s head of sustainability transformation, said the company could offer specialty chemical products that can help create new solutions to enhance plastic circularity.
Clariant also aims to be a leading specialty chemicals producer that is indispensable to transform into a circular plastics economy. The company has also set up the EcoCircle initiative to identify solutions to close the loop in the plastic value chain and to work with key stakeholders to speed up plastics circularity, Haldimann added.
