AlwaysFree: Clariant Launches New Phthalate-Free Catalysts For PP Production

Author: SSESSMENTS

Clariant recently launched PolyMax 600 Series catalysts, a new generation olefin polymerisation catalysts for the production of polypropylene (PP) which are free of phthalates, an endocrine disruptor and androgen blocking chemical. Clariant and  McDermott’s Lummus Novolen Technology jointly developed the new catalysts to meet customers’ demand for safer PP solutions which fulfil their toxicity requirements.

Stefan Heuser, senior VP and GM at Clariant Catalysts, claims that the new PolyMax 600 Series catalysts can help customers to achieve higher productivity rates while reducing process fluctuations. According to him, a major PP producer estimated it could achieve economic benefits of more than $8 million a year from using the new catalysts.

He added that innovative technology allows the new catalysts to be 25% more active compared to phthalate-based catalysts. It can also enhance the impact strength and durability of the produced polymer. Heuser noted that the new PolyMax 600 Series catalysts would help to yield polymers that suit a wide range of applications ranging from food packaging to engineered parts.
