According to oil transportation company Cenit, Colombian crude oil flow in the Cano Limon-Covenas pipeline has been stopped since Monday due to a major security issue.
The pipeline runs from the Cano Limon oil field to Covenas in the Caribbean and has been facing severe security problems, as leftist guerillas often bomb it and criminal groups steal oil via illicit valves.
An unspecified accident happened in the area and the army has been deployed to secure the area and to allow technical teams to evaluate the damage.
Cenit elaborated that each day, an average of 3,299 barrels of crude oil were being stolen and the majority of them came from the Cano Limon-Covenas pipeline.
