According to TASS, Russia's state-owned news agency article published on October 24, 2022, the cooperation between Russia and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is gaining momentum and spreading to new areas, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a news conference on Monday following talks with OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha.
"Lavrov have held very useful talks. This is our second meeting this year," Lavrov said. "Today we stated that our dialogue with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is gaining momentum and is spreading to new areas."
Lavrov said Russia "highly appreciates that in the current international situation, the Islamic world, whose main organization is headed by Mr. Taha, shows independence, firmly adheres to the principle of sovereign equality of states, stands for the development of constructive relations between all countries based on international law, primarily the principles of the UN Charter."
The minister said they held in-depth discussions pressing issues of cooperation, the progress of joint work to promote intercultural and interreligious dialogue.
"Lavrov has reaffirmed our support for the activities of the Russia-Islamic World Strategic Vision Group and the Kazan International Economic Forum," Lavrov said.
The agenda of the visit by the OIC secretary general, according to Lavrov, includes the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia and the OIC.
"This symbolizes a further strengthening of ties in the scientific, educational and humanitarian areas," he said.
